Focusrite USB Audio Interface
Focusrite Clarett USB lays down the challenge to interfaces twice the price. The Clarett USB range features specially designed high performance, low-noise (-128dB EIN) mic pres with a low distortion, ultra-linear design that guarantees a clean, open and transparent sound, giving accurate representation of the original performance. Boasting 119dB dynamic range, Clarett can now be experienced with any Mac® or PC supporting USB 2.0 and above. Decades of analogue circuit design experience, applied around 24-bit/192kHz A-D and D-A conversion, delivers a superior signal path.
Clarett 8Pre USB is an 18-in, 20-out audio interface. Six-segment LED metering easily shows the signal level of the eight mic/line inputs, two of which are also high-impedance instrument inputs that can record super-hot pickups with no unwanted distortion. MIDI I/O and S/PDIF I/O are also included. ADAT I/O allows you to expand your setup with up to eight extra inputs and outputs when combined with multi-channel mic preamps like Clarett OctoPre. Analogue outs include two monitor outputs with anti-thump technology, eight line outputs, two headphone outputs with volume controls, and a word clock output for sending clock signal to external devices.
The eight Air-enabled mic preamps can reproduce the input impedance, clarity and frequency response curve of Focusrite's original ISA mic preamp. Clarett 2Pre USB connects to Mac® or PC using the included standard USB and USB Type-C™ cables. Record with super-low latency through amp simulators and effects plug-ins.
Configure your routing and monitor mixes from Mac®, PC, iPad®, iPhone® or iPod touch® with user-friendly control software Focusrite Control. Additional included software is from XLN Audio, Focusrite, Softube, Ableton® and Loopmasters.
Since its release the Clarett USB range has had some amazing reviews. Here is just a few words from the press:-
”Sonically, the Clarett 4Pre is an impressive design...I was also impressed by it's performance at my lowest buffer size of 32 samples"
"...Air option, which adds noticeable enhancement from about 1kHz upwards, I found particularly seductive on vocals and guitars"
"High spec'd yet reasonably priced"
"In theory then, the Clarett USB interfaces combine the audio quality of the Thunderbolt Claretts with the driver performance of the second-generation Scarletts, and this is exactly what happens in practice"
"The most obvious rival is Presonus's 192…but does not quite match (the Clarett) in terms of audio specs and has less good latency performance."
"The process of choosing a USB interface just got harder, thanks to the arrival of another very strong contender. The USB Claretts offer the same excellent audio specifications as their Thunderbolt cousins, in a more universal connection format."
"The low noise and high quality of Clarett absolutely shone through. We’re talking low distortion and a great presence everywhere across the frequency spectrum. When recording, I set up a number of inputs, including digital piano and vocal and I have to say the only word that came to mind was ’pristine’."
"The Clarett USB range certainly brings that high-quality sound to those lacking Thunderbolt connectivity and also brings low-latency recording and the Air feature too. The 2Pre in particular makes a fine portable interface with the right USB slot while the 8Pre is a fantastic option for those in need of more connectivity"
"Both are very well priced, especially given the software bundle which includes some fine plug-ins and samples. That fine Clarett quality comes to USB with a price and I/O options for everybody."
" Well built and solid interfaces. Fabulous sound quality. All the routing and setup options you could wish for. Well priced, especially when considering the software bundle. Lots of I/O options across the range"
