The Modal Electronics ELEMENT One is an 8-voice virtual analogue synthesizer designed to combine powerful sound design with an immediate, performance-focused workflow. Powerful 8-voice virtual analogue synthesis

At the heart of ELEMENT One is a true 8-voice polyphonic sound engine with 64 high-resolution virtual analogue oscillators, providing up to eight oscillators per voice. Two independent oscillator groups provide sine, pulse, triangle and sawtooth waveforms alongside 40 different algorithms covering a wide range of synthesis techniques.

From traditional virtual analogue sounds to PWM, hard sync, ring modulation, cross modulation, wave folding, filtered noise and more experimental textures, ELEMENT One provides plenty of scope for creating both classic and contemporary sounds.

37 full-size keys with aftertouch

ELEMENT One features a premium 37-note full-size keyboard with velocity sensitivity and channel aftertouch, allowing sounds to respond dynamically to your playing. Multiple keyboard modes include Mono, Poly, Unison 2, Unison 4, Unison 8, Stack 2 and Stack 4, while Glide and Portamento provide further performance options.

A four-axis joystick can be assigned to a wide range of modulation destinations, while four assignable controller knobs provide direct access to selected sound parameters during performance.

300 sounds ready to play

With 300 factory programs available straight out of the box, ELEMENT One provides a broad selection of sounds for keyboardists, producers, DJs and live performers. A total of 500 fully editable patch memories are available, alongside a category tagging system that makes it easier to find sounds based on their character and purpose.

Unlimited Custom Banks can also be created, allowing favourite sounds to be organised around individual projects, performances or setlists.

31 filter types and extensive modulation

Sound shaping is handled by 31 resonant filter types, including morphable and static designs covering low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch, phasing and other configurations. This is supported by three dedicated envelope generators for Amp, Mod and Filter duties.

Three audio-rate LFOs with tempo sync, eight assignable modulation slots and four additional fixed modulation routings provide extensive control over movement and expression, with 12 modulation sources and 55 modulation destinations available.

Programmable arpeggiator and built-in effects

A sophisticated 32-step programmable arpeggiator provides an easy way to turn chords and notes into rhythmic patterns and evolving sequences, with rest capability and patterns capable of running for up to 2048 steps before repeating.

Three independent and user-configurable stereo effects engines provide Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Tremolo, LoFi, Rotary, Stereo Delay, Ping-Pong Delay, X-Over Delay and Reverb effects. The three engines can be arranged in any order, with 100 FX presets available for storing configurations.

Hands-on control without constant menu diving

ELEMENT One is designed to make its synthesis engine accessible without relying on constant menu navigation. 17 endless encoders, 11 buttons, four assignable controller knobs and the four-axis joystick put plenty of control directly on the front panel, while the 1.54-inch OLED display provides visual feedback when playing and editing.

This makes ELEMENT One equally suited to musicians who simply want to browse presets and start playing, and more experienced synthesizer users who want to build and manipulate their own sounds.

Flexible studio and live connectivity

Connectivity includes left and right 6.3 mm outputs, a 6.3 mm stereo headphone output, external audio input, sustain and expression pedal connections, analogue clock sync input and output, and traditional MIDI DIN input and output.

A class-compliant USB-C MIDI connection allows ELEMENT One to communicate directly with a compatible computer or tablet, making it easy to integrate into a modern production or performance setup.

Free MODALapp editor

For musicians who want to explore the synthesis engine in greater detail, the free MODALapp provides screen-based editing and patch management. It is available for macOS, Windows, iOS, iPadOS and Android, with VST3 and AU versions also available for integration with compatible DAW software.

The editor provides access to the deeper sound-forming and performance parameters of ELEMENT One while also allowing patches and sequences to be managed and backed up.
